A "wow"-inspiring work is, to me, one that flashes in, subverts my expectations, and then is gone before I know what hit me. This is a dangerous philosophy to apply to piano compositions, which generally follow traditional notions of form, structure, and development and can be skewed easily by too liberal a dosage of "wow" factor. However, throwing caution to the wind, I saw the theme as not merely a way to reject some of teh abovementioned notions, but a fun opportunity to try something different. "WOW may be an expression of excited interest or utter bewilderment; I hope that reactions to my piece will be the former, or at least a nice combination of the two.
