A Bicycle Trip Packing List

Check For Following Condition Before Packing

  1. tires worn

  2. cables frayed

  3. brake pads worn

  4. bottom bracket and head set: loose or bound

  5. a spoke is broken

  6. a wheel is out of true

  7. pump does not work well

  8. gears do not shift smoothly

  9. chain is stretched

  10. loose screw or bolt: rack, bike shoes, packs

  11. brakes: to tight, to loose

Bike Tools

  1. vice grip

  2. screw driver: slotted, phillips

  3. duct tape

  4. alan wrenches

  5. spoke wrench

  6. chain tool

  7. tire irons

  8. tube patch kit (lots of patches and glue OK)

  9. tire patches (for holes in tire not tube)

  10. zip ties

  11. chain lube

Bike Gear

  1. 3 extra new tubes

  2. extra rack and pack bolts

  3. visor

  4. helmet

  5. fenders

  6. rear view mirror

  7. pump

  8. rack: front, rear

  9. bike lites and or flashers

  10. reflective clothing for chest area.

  11. 2 bike water bottles

  12. pack: front, rear, handle bar

  13. bags to organize gear and food in packs

  14. rag

Hygiene

  1. tooth: brush, paste, floss, night guard

  2. sun screen lotion

  3. hanker chief

  4. desitin (or similar)

  5. nail clipper

  6. toilet paper, hand sanitizer, small plastic bags for used toilet paper.

Cook Gear

  1. utensils: cup, bowl, spoon, dull knife

  2. cooking: pot, stove, fuel, lighter

  3. cleaning: paper towels

Clothing

  1. bike: shorts, gloves, mittens, shoes, jacket, ear cover

  2. bike: lighter and heavier long sleeve top

  3. bike: lighter and heavier long leg bottoms

  4. bike: pedal covers or foot gaiters

  5. rain: jacket, pants

  6. glasses: bifocal-sun, bifocal-clear

  7. camp pants with legs that zip off

  8. light shoes or sandals for camp

  9. socks: one per 2 days (good in rain)

  10. tee shirts: one per 2 days

  11. underwear: one per day

Camping Gear

  1. water: pump, 2-quart bottles, bag

  2. tarp for ground cover or rain protection away from tent.

  3. parachute cord (enough to hang tarp and food)

  4. bug repellant

  5. head light and batteries that fit.

  6. sleeping bag and thermorest

  7. straps or bungee cords

  8. tent, with poles and ground cloth

  9. sharp knife with opener

  10. maps, compass

First Aid

  1. band aids, tape, scissor

  2. anti-inflammatory: aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen

  3. salt pills

  4. antiseptic cream

Misc

  1. phone and charger

  2. extra small and large zip lock bags

  3. plastic shopping bags (for garbage)

  4. watch
