Intensity-modulated radiation therapy will make a quantum leap in tumor control.
It is the new radiation therapy for the new millennium. The major methods to achieve IMRT are: 1. dynamic multileaf collimator (DMLC) therapy, 2. multisegment therapy, and 3. tomotherapy. The principles of these 3 techniques are briefly reviewed. Each technique presents unique QA issues which are outlined. As an example this paper will present the results of a recent new study of an important QA concern in DMLC therapy.
