Vanderbilt

2 ounces cognac
1 ounce cherry heering
generous splash of chocolate bitters
simple syrup or a sprinkle of superfine sugar
, if you really must

Shake or stir over / with ice, strain into an up glass. No garnish. Well, if you want to put a really nice cherry in there, no one will stop you. A twist is fine, too.

Vanderbilt: Kirkland signature xo, cherry heering, chocolate bitters

The Thinking Behind This Drink

[January | February | March | April | May | June | July | August | September | October | November | December ]

My 2018 New Year's Resolution was to get better at making more drinks consistently. This is an easy drink to start with, because it is a 2:1 with bitters. I made a lot of Vanderbilts in January, and at some point, I was thinking, I sure love chocolate bitters in other drinks. Chocolate and cherry and chocolate and brandy are no-brainer combinations. How can this possibly go wrong? Well, it is really really right. Check your snobbery at the door and enjoy.
