Spiced Nuts

My postpartum doula did something to nuts to make them taste really good. I can't do what she did; this is what I do.

Heat oil in a pan.

Add nuts:

walnuts
pecans
almonds
hazelnuts

Add sweetener:

brown sugar OR
molasses OR
honey

Add spices:

cinnamon
ginger
cardamom
chili powder

Add water to get everything to mix.

Transfer the contents of the pan to a baking sheet. Roast in the oven at about 200 degrees until tacky (or dry, as you prefer).

If you refrigerate these when they are tacky, they sometimes become one gigantic nut cluster.

Serve alone, on a salad, or whatever occurs to you.
