Basil Blackberry Crumble

Another one from my friend Ann, who got it from Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, who got it from Linda Heuring. I've modified it extensively.

Chop or Slice:

2-3 apples, I prefer Granny Smiths

Combine in a 9x9 baking pan:

2 pints blackberries
2 Tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 large handful of basil leaves
, chopped, but you can use dry, instead, but then use less
2 Tbsp maple syrup, or a little more (original called for honey)

Mix in a bowl then sprinkle over top of fruit and berry mixture:

5 Tbsp flour (I used whole wheat)
2 Tbsp rolled oats
3 Tbsp brown sugar
3 Tbsp oil
(I used extra virgin olive oil, because I thought the flavor would go well with the basil and balsamic)

Bake 30 minutes until golden and bubbly in a preheated 375 degree convection oven (or 400 degree without).

I would expect this recipe to have cinnamon in the topping. I think it doesn't only because it comes from a locavore book.
