January 1997

I didn't read much this month, being otherwise occupied working on a 2000 piece Ravensburger with a couple of vaguely medievaloid star maps on it. Took forever altho it was quite a lot of fun.

The Straight Dope, Cecil Adams (reread)

More of the Straight Dope, Cecil Adams (reread)

Return of the Straight Dope, Cecil Adams

I do not now recall what got me started reading trivial/UL books/web pages again, but I started in on Adams, found his latest (not all that recent), then continued right through his quite wonderful web site and mourned the fact that I managed to miss all the very few episodes which aired on A&E. I followed up with the inimitable AFU faq, which has moved from cathouse.

When Are You Entitled to New Underwear and Other Major Financial Decisions, Eileen Michaels

I went in search of a detailed explanation of the ramifications of AMT, AMT credit and so on, and left Borders carrying a copy of this highly entertaining and reasonably informative introduction to personal finance. Anecdotal and earthy, Michaels manages to communicate some unpleasant truths without sugarcoating.
