Framework I pondered many approaches to this problem. I had considered fabricating this entirely out of acrylic, but it would be too heavy, and fragile. Polycarbonate (the stuff bullet-proof glass is made of), was too expensive. Finally, I decided to build it out of something I knew very well - steel.
