During my tenure as Associate Director at Pomegranate Center I had the pleasure of working with the delridge and Westwood neighborhoods in west seattle to create the first of ten gateways for thenewly planned longfellow creek. I acted as the project manager, installation manager and community art outreach manager.
The Roxhill Gateway you see above is the first of several large gateways that will be built along the three-mile Longfellow Creek Legacy Trail in urban West Seattle.
Each gateway demarcates an important entry point to the trail. Roxhill Park contains a bog that is the headwaters of LongfellowCreek. In planning for the first gateway, the community felt that demarcating the headwaters was an important first step.
The RoxhillGateway was designed with input from the community and local artists. The metal elements were fabricated by local artist Paul Sorey. Theconcrete ornamental panels were created by local community members of all ages in a weekend workshop. 2001-2002. This was a wonderful volunteer effort and couldnt have been completed without hundreds of hours of peoples dedicated help and creativity.
