What Wow is to Me
Cassandra Hyre
Bremerton High PTSA 1.2.47

Wow is like the boy back in Elementary school
Who would jump off the swing;
So long, so fast, so quick,
It was almost like he sprouted wings.

Wow is like the science fair,
So many things to see.
Look away for a minute or two,
And you could miss almost everything.

Wow is like a little bird
Learning how to fly.
Just one step off that ledge
And he takes off to the skies.

Wow is like your first tooth growing back
Because you missed it when it was gone.
If you wait a few more years,
Then you'll have all new teeth
When all is said and done.

Wow is like the storybooks
That talk about the greater good.
Fighting dragons and evil queens and dirty crooks
Isn't as easy as it looks.

Wow is like the birthday present
You'd thought you'd never have.
To glum about a day or two before
But get it all the same in the end.

There are many wows within this world
Too many to try and list.
But many wows we find in this world
We find when we are kids.

A child knows the value
Of old, wom-out shoe laces.
And what it means to hold a kitten
So close to their own faces.

They always believe in magic,
If only for a moment or two,
And still think it's special
That their parents are good at what they do.

So wow is many things
We can say or do.
But the biggest wow there has to be
Is to be alive in this world with you.

My poem explores "WOW" experiences in my life that are also in everyone elses life. Ordinary moments that amaze and inspire us.
