Poem of Earth
Allison Knowles
Fruitland PTA 5.7.10

Howl, howl went the wind.
Creek creek went the shutters.
I lay in bed listening, just
Listening.
Totally dark outside but
Still I lay in bed listening,
Just listening.
Coyotes yipping, owls hooting,
Trees rustling in the wind.
But still I lay there in bed
Listening, just listening, listening
To the sound of the Earth.

Sway, sway went the grass.
Sparkle, sparkle went the sun.
I stood there singing, just singing.
No clouds in the sky, it's time
To play but still,
I stood there singing, just
Singing.
Deer were running, rabbits
Were hopping, birds were tweeting.
Trees were swaying in the
Breeze but still I stood there
Singing, just singing, singing to the
Sound of the Earth.

Splash, splash went the fish.
Leap, leap went the dolphins.
I sat on the sand thinking,
Just thinking.
The sand rough, the sun
Out, but still. I sat
There thinking, just thinking.
Seagulls squawking, wind blowing,
Whales singing but still
I sat there thinking,
Just thinking, thinking of
The sound of the Earth.

Swoosh, swoosh went the sled.
Wee, wee went the child.
I ran around playing, Just
Playing.
Snow was thick and hard
To move in, but still I
Ran around playing, just
Playing. Snow flakes falling,
Children screaming with happiness.
But still I ran around playing.
Just playing. Playing to the
Sound of the Earth.

Howl, howl went the wind.
Creek, creek went the shutter.
Wow, I said, just wow.
Tweet, tweet went the birds,
Hop, hop went the rabbits.
Wow I said, that's all, just wow.
Splash, splash went the fish,
Leep, leep went the dolphins.
Wow I said, just wow.
Swoosh, swoosh went the sled.
Wee, wee went the child.
Wow I said, just wow. Saying
Wow to the sound of the
Earth.

WOW!

I think of the Earth as a beautiful place and it mades me say WOW!
