Lakeside
Welcomes Coach Matthew Fleury
Lakeside gives a warm welcome
to Matthew Fleury, the new Chess coach at the middleschool.
Coach Fleury is a highly recommended coach by the former chess
teacher Ollie LaFreniere and by many other schools. Coach Fleury
has been involved in Scholastic Chess since 1989 and has led
one of the Lakeside alumni through board 3 in the 2002 Washington
State High School Championship. We look forward to having Coach
Fleury as the Lakeside Middleschool Coach.
Lakeside
Loses Legend: Ollie LaFreniere
This Fall, Lakeside lost a long
time friend and mentor: Ollie LaFreniere. Mr. LaFreniere invested
50 years to educate Washington's children in the game of Chess.
He was a very devoted coach to the kids at Lakeside and has
been with Lakeside for numerous years and has been the biggest
part of the Chess community. Last year, Mr. LaFreniere led the
Lakeside team to the 1st place trophy at the Washington State
Tournament.
