World Series preview
Portland dominated the American Century League almost from the beginning. After a 3-9 start, the club that represents the AL 10s battled back to near the top of the standings by the end of April, took the lead by four games at the end of May, led by seven at the close of June, then blew the competition away with a torrid 21-5 record in July and kept on winning until they'd amassed 107 victories and won the pennant by 19 games.

Hoodsport, on the other hand, never led in the National Century League until late August. The NL 20s club lurked in second or third place for much of the season. Then, when front-running Vancouver stumbled into an 11-game losing streak in late August and early September, Hoodsport was ready and took the lead. Five NCL clubs were in the running right up until the final week, and Hoodsports lead got as small as one game. The Raspberries, however, prevailed when the pressure was on and won the NCL pennant by three games.
