Century League World Series

ACL Playoff preview
Seaview and Tri-Cities finished in a tie for first place in the American Century League, forcing a best-of-three playoff for the pennant. Four teams were in the hunt until the final week in the ACL.

Seaview ArtisansSeaview was led by the slugging exploits of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, who powered the club into the playoffs. Gehrig was named player of the week the final two weeks of the regular season. He and Ruth will be fighting it out for MVP; Gehrig batted .311 with 58 home runs, 148 RBI, and scored 130 runs. Ruth hit .306 and crashed 74 homers, drove in 161 and scored 151. No wonder they led the league in scoring with 835 runs. Carl Mays won 17 games and Stan Coveleski 15. Seaview stats.

Tri-Cities, an expansion team in the Century League this season, arrived in the playoff because of the ACL's best pitching staff, which logged a 3.77 ERA. Roger Clemens led the way with a 15-9 mark and an ERA of 3.42. The bullpen was sound, topped by Dennis Eckersley, who notched 36 saves and had an ERA of 2.50. The Atoms had middling hitting, finishing last in the league in batting average, but drew enough walks and hit enough home runs to finish sixth in scoring. Tri-Cities stats.
