Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
CW from Australia: "I am travelling through Europe/America mid 1997 I am interested to know if
you or anyone out there know of any mezzotint studios or workshops
I can attend or visit."
I can only think of a local person and as you know I am in the Northwest. His name is Byron Bratt, and I see that I do not have an address for him.
- He started printmaking with me many years ago and learned the basics. The interesting story I like to tell about Byron is that he left my school and went east, and since no one else was doing mezzotint (the rocker, an expensive tool, sat around neglected) he took the rocker with him.
- With this for a beginning, and the New York milieu, he got his start. He moved back to the Northwest and one day he walked into class and put the rocker back on the shelf. Today he keeps a studio in Everett, Washington. I see him occasionally. I think he is a good reason for you to consider making the Northwest part of your sojourn.
- Look for him in Carol Wax' book on mezzotint; I am sure he must be in there.
Note from the ArtsPort master: I myself asked the first question and sent it to the Prints_L mailing
list, asking for the title of the book on mezzotint. The answer
came back quickly-from the Netherlands. Thus began a bibliography
for mezzotint.
