Okay, so maybe you don't want to know about me. If so, you can go back to my Home Page.
I am Mike Scully. I was born in Seattle on October 7, 1957, three days after the first 'Sputnik' satellite was launched -- a child of the Space Age if ever there was one. I spent the first seven years of my life in a house in the University District of Seattle.
The once and future me:
Two memories stand out from this time:
In one, a friend and I rode our bicycles from NE 53rd Street and 7th Avenue NE to Lake Union (near where what is now Gasworks Park), but failed to tell my folks where I was going. When they found me, I was on the end of a pier, reaching for the water -- about 10 arm-lengths away. On this Washington's Birthday -- this is back when it was celebrated separately -- I was punished by not getting any cherry pie, the one punishment I still remember.
The other memory is that of Molly, my First Grade -- and top notch, even then -- sweetheart. A telling photo by my father (a professional, conveniently), is of the two of us at a Christmas concert in December of 1962. Molly was fixing my clip-on bow tie. A moment later, I helped Molly adjust a dangling bracelet, that was about to fall off her wrist (the dangling bracelet appears in the picture). I met Molly years later, and I found out that she was very much impressed with this gentlemanly act. The concert was formative for both of us: she is a stage actress today, and married. I developed a taste for women with brown eyes -- too often disparagingly described as "mousey", I happen to prefer them.
We moved to Bellevue, a Seattle suburb, between my Second and Third grade years. I will spare you the details of my suburban years, and my negative opinions of the 'burbs. After community college, I attempted to live on the Eastside, without a car -- don't try it! Eventually, I wised up, and moved back to the Big City.
I have spent my years since working as a Library Technician (a cross between a librarian and a clerk), enjoying sailing, jazz -- especially swing -- The Marx Brothers, bicycling...
...(I own a dandy tandem, I commute by bicycle, and don't own a car, although I admit I am a member of Flexcar), and computers, particularly the Amiga.
I am a little over 5-foot-eight, and about 145 pounds (skinnier than I would like to be). I have thick, dark brown hair (being first born, I took it all from the gene pool, and didn't leave any for my younger brothers), hazel eyes, wear glasses (contacts are dicey), and "sport a beard" (what kind of a verb is 'sport', anyway?).
That's me in a nutshell -- appropriate for a nut, isn't it?
You can send me e-mail, if you wish.
