This is still a real crisis: Education fundingWashington is facing the toughest economic crisis in years, and the quality of our public schools is at risk. Our schools face more than $1 billion in potential K-12 cuts. We’re looking at overcrowded classes, teacher and ESP layoffs, fewer opportunities for students and cuts to arts, music and other classes. These severe budget cuts will set public education back 10 to 20 years – unless we do something about it. Legislators in Olympia need to focus on the priority – adequately funding schools so we don’t lose ground. Investing in public education is crucial to our state’s future economic health. We need a balanced school funding solution that includes both cost savings and new revenue. Eventually, the economy will recover, and we want our students to be prepared Investing in our students will strengthen our state’s economy and ability to compete for good jobs.
