Martyn Lovell's Best Of The Web
Yet more proof that the web is more meta than meat

This page contains my personal list of links, collected in the eight or so years
that I've been a regular web user. Recently added links are marked
. This doesn't imply that the site itself is new.
I have not necessarily tried all the products or services linked from this page.
I've used all the websites myself, but not always ordered goods. As always, you
should make your own judgments about the quality of a vendor who you're
choosing to purchase from. Caveat emptor.
I have not filtered this list. Some of the stuff listed here may in your
opinion, be inappropriate for your children to read. You are free to enforce
your opinions any way you choose. For example, MSN 8 has great parental
controls.

- Arts
-
ACT Theatre - downtown
Seattle theatre company that I have season tickets to with a group of friends.
Tends to modern productions. Excellent in-the-round spaces.
-
Emerald City Arts
- a series of comedians presented by the Seattle Men's Chorus. I went to one of
these this year, which was excellent (David Sedaris).
-
Foolproof - series of
comedy shows hosted at the Paramount Theatre. I did about 2/3 of the shows this
year, and will probably subscribe next year.
-
Great Apes - My book club
-
Intiman Theatre - next to
the Opera house, this theatre company performs traditional and alternative
works. Tends to do at least on Shakespeare each year, along with other
classics. I have season tickets with a group of friends.
-
My Arts Page - places I've been, things
I've seen, reviews
-
Pacific Northwest Ballet -
Seattle's premiere Ballet company, currently relocated to the transitional
Mercer Arts Arena. The company does a mixture of very traditional ballet and
more modern dance works. I have season tickets with a group of friends.
-
Paramount Theatre -
One of Seattle's best venues for concerts and one-off events. Their Paramount
Club programme allows us to get VIP tickets for the best shows at reasonable
prices.
-
Seattle Arts and Lectures
- Excellent series of local talks from writers, scholars, academics and other
high-brow celebrities
-
Seattle Opera -
Great Seattle Opera company, also currently hosted in the Mercer Arts Arena.
Focuses almost exclusively on traditional productions of mainstream opera.
Specialises in the Wagner Ring Cycle (which I got to see all in one week late
mid last year). I have season tickets.
-
Seattle Symphony -
Seattle-based symphony orchestra hosted in the recently completed Benaroya
Hall. I have season tickets.
-
Village Theatre -
Issaquah-based musical theatre company. This is fairly low-budget stuff done in
a decent theatre with decent sets. Cast are normally not stars, but often give
a great performance. Seems to focus on older (before 1950) musicals, with a
smattering of newer works.

there, but due to a combination of factors, never felt completely settled or
happy.
