No Soap Rodeo
Reminiscent of Tom Waits, Freedy Johnson, and Mark Knopfler, No Soap Rodeo brings their finely crafted songs to a stage near you.
Formed in Seattle in 1999, No Soap Rodeo began as a pop music collective. Since throwing off the shackles of the singer/songwriter genre, they have developed a sound that is unique, accessible, and diverse. Borrowing musical elements from roots rock, Latin dance music, and a little country twang, they offer up a smorgasbord of stories and vignettes. Over time the line up has become: Karl Stevens (vocals and bass), Rob Pratt (vocals & guitar), and Dean Moore (drums) with the songwriting and vocal duties split between Karl and Rob.
Their debut CD release, 'Hey Sailor", features No Soap Rodeo along with many local Seattle musicians including Elaine DiFalco (from the Walkabouts), Jim Knottle (from the Jim Basnight Thing), and
others.
Before moving to Seattle, Karl spent a few years earning a Film Scoring degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, and a few more recovering from the experience. He spent 4 years as bassist & songwriter for Phineas Gage, before joining No Soap Rodeo in 1999.
Dean Moore, also a Phineas Gage alumnus, is a native of LA. He played with LA bands, The Cat Mary and Jackie and Marilyn before moving to Seattle
Rob Pratt was a founding member of Southwest rock band, The Warrens. Their self-produced release received airplay and favorable reviews in Phoenix and Tucson. Rob has performed at the FolkLife festival the past two years.
Tony Bonjorno, the most recent recruit on the No Soap Rodeo circuit, has been
playing violin for more years than he cares to count. He currently writes
music reviews for the SGN, teaches voice and violin. He has been involved in
several local music projects like Jerko Dokko and Margin of Error.
