GRILLE CONSTRUCTION AND COVERING

The Grille Frames being assembled. All corners are miter cut at 45°. The Speaker Boards are inset in the Enclosures 3/4". The frames are 3/4"x1-3/4" maple, which are cut and fitted to fit very snugly into the recess, projecting 1" out from it. 1/4"x3/4" radiused molding  is glued to the frames, which cover the edges of the enclosure and are flush with the outer surfaces. All the joints are glued.
Here, and in the shot above, 1/4" 1/4 round molding is glued to reinforce the joint between the frames and the edge molding. Small plywood corner braces reinforce the corners. Note that the Frames and Edge Molding form a 45° inset in sides and  corners  for the finished covering, to add some depth to the appearance .
The Grille Frames are sanded and painted flat black.
