The soft top was almost new, but the inside surface looked pretty bad(see left). Here, Iv'e removed it from the frame, taped off the rear windows and sprayed the inside surface and front bolsters with black upholstery paint.

The frame had a broken link on one side, and as I studied the structure and operation of the frame, I realized that completely removing the front upper link from both sides would allow the front of the soft top to fold down, instead of just back. The result of this mod is shown below.

The rear bow folds down flush with the perimeter bolster. The center bow forms a peak, and stretches the material taught. The front bow now pivots forward and down, pulling the top taught between it and the center bow.

The front bow rests forward of the package shelf bolster, pulling the top taught. The top now forms a clean 'boot'; making the retracted top attractive instead of a folded up lump.
