| The Cabin and Cockpit Heater System is built using
1/2" copper pipes and fittings with the joints sweat-soldered, and 1/2"
HD heater hose. All piping is covered with foam insulation tubes. The heating
units are Red Dot R-254-0 single fan units, which are 12V 2 speed
fan and heater core assemblies.

Available here: http://www.johnson-pump.com/JPMarine/products/circulation/cmco.html These are fresh water pumps, but don't seem to mind pumping hot engine coolant. The System does not require the coolant pump to be running when the engine is on, because the coolant flows automatically then. The System works very well, and easily keeps the forward cabin/cockpit toasty for up to an hour after shutdown with the canvas up. It provides hot potable water from the water heater, which lasts several hours. It only requires about 5 minutes of engine idle operation to fully restore the heating capacity of the coolant supply. The aft cabin grid can warm the mattress with about 1/2 hour of part throttle operation, and makes overnighting a pleasure- no more cold bunk to shiver in. |
