Contemplating the job of creating a whole new canvas set, an immediate first need was a large table on which to work and manipulate the large canvas pieces with ease. I built an 8'X8' table by making 4 -4'X4' tables which bolt together to form the full table size. This was done so the table could be moved from my shop into the downstairs rec room. This Table is easy to make with the proper tools, and can be completed in one afternoon.
The Table sections are made from 2X4s and 1/2" plywood. It is best to buy the pre-sanded plywood, as a smooth table top is necessary, and the extra $10 for the sanded sheets is well worth the time required to sand them after purchase.
Material list:
16  8' 2X4 studs. Straight, unwarped studs are necessary.
2  48"X96" presanded 1/2" CDX plywood
1  Box 1 -5/8" square drive screws
1   box 2-1/2" square drive screws
The sheets are sawn in two on the table saw. This makes 4-4X4 sheets. The table frames are made from 2- 47" and 2- 44" pieces. These screw together with butt joints to form a 47" square. This leaves a 1/2" margin around the table top. The legs of the Table sections are 36", and are screwed into the corners of the frames, and butt against the table top.
