Healing Reading List

These books are intended as examples of historical and traditional healing techniques and are not intended as texts intended to teach the practice of healing They are merely listed as examples of traditional ways that healing was approached in early Irish and Scottish societies.

Beith, Mary, Healing Threads: Traditional Medicines of the Highlands and Islands, Polygon, Edinburgh 1995 -- this book examines many traditional forms of healing from Scotland, from folk traditions and magic to herbalism and formal practices of early physicians.

Logan, Patrick, Irish Country Cures, Appletree Press, Belfast 1981 -- this book specifically covers folk medicine, arranged by categories of illness or injury.

Lady Wilde, Irish Cures, Mystic Charms & Superstitions, Sterling Publishing Co., NY 1991 -- another, broader based but somewhat smaller compilation that Logan's, covering charms and superstitions as well as healing techniques.

Books on other forms of healing

These books are about energy healing, herbalism and other techniqes used by modern Pagans and alternative medical practitioners. Again, I do not recommend practice on yourself or others without formal training. These books are listed simply for their information content.
