 Operating Instructions
I figure that if I've done my job, you shouldn't need a huge manual.  If I've taken a wrong turn, or if something is difficult to figure out, please drop me a note.  In short, the whole thing should be easy to use.
 Special Stuff
Okay...some exceptions to the "no instructions" rule...

Clock

What are these things? Stopwatch Gadget imageTimer Gadget image
These are gadgets that tell you things about Cesium.

toggles the Palm® device Auto-Off feature (forces the device to stay on).
toggles alarm sound on and off.
toggles backlight flashing on and off.

How is the Week of the year determined?
The week is calculated according to ISO format, with one exception:  in ISO format, Monday is always the first day of the week.  In Cesium however, the first day of the week is taken from your Palm Datebook preferences (either Sunday or Monday).

How do I change the battery display?
If your Palm Computing device is running PalmOS 3.0 or greater (typically the Palm III, IIIx, V and VII), tapping on the digits to the right of Batt: in the clock display toggles between volts remaining and % remaining.

What is the "Progressive Alarm" Feature?  How does it work?
Progressive Alarm is a new feature in Cesium v1.8 clock on PalmOS 3.x devices and later and is always active.

The first ring of the clock alarm now takes its volume level from the Alarm Sound volume setting in your device's Prefs application.  The second and subsequent rings use the maximum alarm volume available on the device.

For example, if you set the Alarm Sound volume on your device's Prefs|General screen to Low, the first ring of Cesium's clock alarm will be at a low volume.  The second and additional rings will adjust to the maximum volume.  This is useful if you use Cesium as an alarm clock and would rather be gently awakened.

To set the volume level of a Cesium alarm:
Tap the Application silkscreen button on your device and locate the Prefs application.  Then tap the category pop-up trigger in the upper right corner of the screen and choose General. If your device supports different alarm volumes, you will see a selectable list to the right of the words Alarm Sound:.  Tap on the list and select the volume for the first ring.

Remember that this setting affects the volume of all alarms on your device, including the on-board DateBook.

Preferences
Override World/Home DST Settings
Normally, Cesium knows whether Daylight Savings Time is active in the World and the Home time zones.

These checkboxes allow you to undo what Cesium thinks is correct.

For example, if Cesium thinks it's DST where you are, checking the box will force Cesium to ignore its own DST information.  On the other hand, if Cesium thinks it's not DST where you are, checking the box will force Cesium to behave as if DST were active.  Confused?  Imagine how I feel.  If you're feeling brave, drop me a note and I'll either explain it better, or completely confuse you.

Confirmation Sound
Lets you choose whether pressing the "OK" or "SNOOZE" buttons in the clock alarm alert screen makes a sound;

Leave Backlight On
Lets you choose whether pressing the "OK" or "SNOOZE" buttons in the clock alarm alert screen turns the backlight off or leaves it on (if the backlight was set to turn on when the alarm rings).

 Daylight Savings Time

When you use Cesium for the first time, you need to set your home time zone.  To do this:
  • start Cesium.
  • tap Menu.
  • tap Preferences.
  • tap the list box to the right of Home TZ:.
  • select the city closest to your location.
Once you have set your home time zone, Cesium will automatically adjust world time settings accordingly.

Attention Chronos/ClockWorks Users:
It is no longer necessary to set your DST start and end times.  This feature caused considerable confusion among users.

How will my Palm device keep track of local DST?
Once you set your home time zone, everything else is relative.  All DST settings in Preferences have been removed.  For automatically handling DST changes, I recommend Daylight Saving Hack instead.
