Filtering Email with Outlook Express 5 or 6

Web www.seanet.com
Microsoft Outlook Express (5 or 6):

Filtering out everything not directed to your email address.

Click on "Tools", choose "Message Rules", choose "Mail"

(If you already have one or more rules, you will need to click "New")

In the top white box, scroll down a bit and check "Where the To or CC line contains people"

In the third white box, click on the "contains people" link.

In the first white box, type in your email address.

Click the "Add" button. If Outlook Express is being used to check multiple email addresses, enter each address in the box one at a time and click "add." You may also need to add the addresses of any email lists to which you are subscribed.

"username@seanet.com" was used for this example.

Click on the "Options" button.

Choose "Message does not contain the people below"

Click the "OK" button.

Click the "OK" button (again).

Check "Move it to the specified folder"

In the third white box, click on the "specified" link.

Click on the "New Folder" button.

Type in the name for the folder to which the junkmail will be moved. "Junkmail" is used for this example.

(While you are not required to filter unwanted email into a folder - you can have the filter delete it automatically - it is recommended that you filter mail to a folder, for at least a week or two. This way you can go through the folder and make sure the filter is not cutting out mail you would like to receive.)

Click the "OK" button.

Click the "OK" button.

In the bottom-most white box, type a name for your rule.

Click the "OK" button.

This rule is now finished.

Click "OK" to exit the rules wizard, or click "New" to add an additional rule.
